[veraPDF-users] How veraPDF performs XMP packets validation?

Hello veraPDF users/devs, I have a question over XMP packets validation in PDF documents: how does veraPDF actually does it? Can you point me to references in the code where this is performed? I elaborate more on the question, providing a viable solution as suggested by ISO standards committee. I have access to both ISO 16684-1:2019[1] and ISO 16684-2:2014[2]: the first standard generically describes the XMP packets data model and properties, explaining the many alternative notations accepted (that make difficult to validate the packets). The second suggests a method for the normalization of the packets to create an unique representation of the information stored in the packets (this method can be mostly implemented without knowing anything about the actual XMP data model/properties). It then supplies some sample RELAX NG schemas to validate unspecified XMP demo packets. These schemas clearly aren't describing the full schema to validate the XMP packets of PDF documents since all pdf specific properties are missing but also some generic ones. If the full schema to validate XMP packets in PDF documents was publicly available, validate the XMP packets in PDF documents would be quite simple as the normalization algorithm is not very difficult to implement. I asked for it in[3] but I doubt Adobe will release it. It may also not exist at all since 16684-2:2014 recommendations may have been developed independently from use in any actual Adobe product. Hello, I have a PDF document that, depending on veraPDF version, either passes or fails conformance checks for PDF/A-1b. I used qpdf to extract more information on object 156 where I get the following output: $ qpdf --json --json-key=objects FULLTEXT02.pdf | grep -A 5 '"156 0 R": {' "156 0 R": { "/D": [ "158 0 R", "/FitH", -32768 ], So, to my understanding, the numeric value of -32768 is outside of the allowed range and thus veraPDF should reject this PDF file as *not* conforming to PDF/A-1b. Hi Team, We are using the verapdf tool for checking PDFA compliance. Currently we are using version 1.12.1 and that reports the below error. While analyzing we noticed that this error is not being reported in the latest development version 2.0.59. So we are wondering if this is being reported incorrectly in the version 1.12.1 and has been fixed in the latest development version. Can you confirm if that is the case and also let us know if there is any tentative timeline on when you are planning to release the next version and will that be as that of a build after version 2.0.59? 6.2.11.8-1 - A PDF/A-2 compliant document shall not contain a reference to the .notdef glyph from any of the text showing operators, regardless of text rendering mode, in any content stream Thanks & Regards, Thirumani

Hi, We have a situation where a PDF/A-1b generated by PDFTools fails in VeraPDF validation. We need to find the problem to be able to use VeraPDF as a trustworthy validator! The VeraPDF "ValidationResult" is as follows: ValidationResult [flavour=1b, totalAssertions=6096003, assertions=[TestAssertion [ruleId=RuleId [specification=ISO 19005-1:2005, clause=6.2.3, testNumber=4], status=failed, message=If an uncalibrated colour space is used in a file then that file shall contain a PDF/A-1 OutputIntent, as defined in 6.2.2, location=Location [level=CosDocument, context=root/document[0]/pages[234](256 0 obj PDPage)/contentStream[0](4695 0 obj PDContentStream)/operators[1040]/xObject[0](4696 0 obj PDXForm)/contentStream[0](4696 0 obj PDContentStream)/operators[6137]/fillCS[0](1157 0 obj PDTilingPattern)/contentStream[0](1157 0 obj PDContentStream)/operators[15]/strokeCS[0]]]], isCompliant=false] The response from PDFTools on looking at the generated document and the Vera-response is as follows: "I can reproduce the behavior and have analyzed the exact error message returned by veraPDF. I can confirm, that the message is not correct. veraPDF complains, that "an uncalibrated colour space is used". However, the respective tiling pattern is an uncolored pattern, so it does not define any colors. The latest version of Adobe Acrobat (Preflight - my note) also validates the file successfully." Can any one tip me how to proceed? Is the response from PDFTools valid? In that case, how to fix VERA validation? We are using jar-files from Vera of version 1.14.105 (except for pdf-model-parser 1.14.103 and parser-1.14.104). I also include the actual pdf-file and the docx source file. Sincerely, Bosse
